Recruiting Organ Donors (Page 437)
(This worksheet is similar to the exploration in the text, but not exactly the same.)
In Section P.1 we considered a study that investigated how to encourage people to be more likely to become organ donors. At the time, we did not formally analyze the data from the study. Now we are studying methods for comparing three groups, so we can further analyze the data and draw inferential conclusions from this study. Recall that researchers asked volunteer subjects to imagine they moved to a new state, applied for a driver’s license, and needed to decide whether or not to become an organ donor. Researchers created three different versions of the survey, each with a different donor recruiting strategy. Subjects were randomly assigned to one of the three types of recruiting strategies:
1) Observational units : Person applying for driver's license.
2) Variables : Recruiting Strategies and Donanting Organ
Variable Recruiting Strategies have three options , that is the variable Recriting Strategies takes three values : opt out , opt in and neutral .
We can see that these values are nominal not numerical .
Variable recruting stategies is categorical .
Variable Donanting Organ takes two values : Yes or No
We can see that these values are nominal not numerical .
Variable Donating Organ is categorical .
3) Explanatory variable is the independent variable . Here it is Recruiting Strategies and the variable donating organ is the response to the explanatory variable
Explanatory variable : Recruiting Strategies
Response variable : Donating Organ
4) As the person applyiing for driver's license are randomly assigned any one of the three group of Recruiting Strategies, this is random assignment
This study make use of random assignment
