Cultural background can impact gross motor development of child. Which can create a positive and negative impact up on the childs gross motor development. Seevral studies shows that there is a delay or slowness in the gross motor development of achild who lives in more western culture. Certain social rules, beliefs etc the part of culture will restrict the activities of child, which may have a negative impact on the motor development.
Because of the over protective parents behaviour in certain cultural groups, this can lead to delayed developmental achievemnets. The Infants were less likely to be purposely stimulated in ways to provide additional movement experiences, such as being placed on the floor for free play. But most of the western families do not promote this. Different child-rearing practices may change a baby's moving opportunities and environment and therefore affect motor development.
in some cultural practices, the babies are kept in a sling for most of the time, instead of making them to sit. Crawling on the floor also a good method for achieving the motor development, but most of the time, the babies are kept in the bed or in the sling. Baby carriers are used by many parents, which will not provide oppertunities for the child to move, instead of that the child is hanged over the chest of the parents with these carriers. All these may reduce the gross motor development of the child.
