With given goal ,can you give me 3 interventions ?
Goal: Demonstrate proficiency in pharmacology ( with an emphasis on recognizing actions of drugs and administering drugs safely via various routes) on all assigned patients during clinical as nurse student, with minimal assistance.
Administration of medication and dosage by the specified route using proper technique and taking appropriate precautions were once all that was expected of a nurse.
The nurse should have thorough knowledge about the actios and side effects of medication and she should familiar with drug.
Nursing interventions while giving medications
1. check the medication record
It is important that the nurse check the administering any medication.This will help to identify the recently administered drug, the time of administering the drug and also helps to avoid drug that may interfere or add to the effect of another medication the client has received.
2.choose Right drug
To read the physician order to study the correct name of the drug.Administer medicine only from a clearly labelled container.
Be familiar with the trade name if there is any doubt consult the physician ar seniors.
Be careful of drugs whose names sounds alike,look likemedicines
3.Choose right route
Read the physician order to determine the route of administration.
Knows the abbreviation used to designate the route of administration eg ;IM,IV P.O etc
Stay with the client until he has taken the medication.
Identify the client correctly by asking name, identify with o.p number, check is band.
4.check the site of injection where the last dose was given and the site where the next dose is to be given.check the area for redness, swelling,skin lesions .if anyone symptoms are present report to the senior nurse.
5.use correct technique of injection.the drug inject slowly to reduce the pain.
6.massage the area at the site of injection expect in case of I'd and iv
7.select the appropriate site for injection: di not give injection into the tissue that are tender, swelling, redness.
