explain how changes in diversity and technological innovations have affected universities in usa?
As we enter into the modern era US universities have witnessed increased diversity & pluralism. US universities have successfully embraced racial, gender, cultural, and attitudinal differences. Migration has played a key role in the diverse culture of educational institutes in US. The ethnicity of current migrating people is different. Though inability to function in English language which is not the native language of the migrant population has resulted in poor achievement by ethnic pupils. In classrooms cultural differences do account for varied learning styles which affect their performance. Though there is no differentiation in accessing quality education the U.S. has seen racial and ethnic disparities in higher education enrollment and attainment. The share of the population with a high school diploma has risen over time for Hispanic, black, white, and Asian adult U.S. residents, the gap in bachelor’s degree attainment has widened for both black and Hispanic adults compared to white adults. Promoting diversity and inclusiveness in universities including the administration & faculty can help in achieving a diverse & inclusive campus environment.
Technological innovations have created a big difference in the working style of universities. Not only has it helped in increasing productivity but created opportunities of development. US universities have generally been quick to adopt new technologies. Some technologies have become permanent parts of the education system. Increased usage of internet, course web pages & online learning tools have revolutionized the traditional teaching & learning process. Technology has helped in eliminating barriers to education in Universities. Computers & telecommunication innovations have reshaped higher education. Technology has helped in making education in universities more interactive & collaborative process with the help of technology enabled resources.
