what effect will crystalloid and colloid fluids have on the rate ( faster or slow) of infusion? why the IV bag is raised?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Crystalloid fluids

Crystalloid fluids  are isotonic solutions having same concentration of solute as plasma. it is an aqueous solution of mineral salt and other small water soluble molecule.crystalloid solutions are mainly used to increase the intravascular volume when it reduced by dehydration, haemorrhage, or any loss of fluids during surgery. Normal saline are commonly used for the fluid replacement because it is  a low cost solution . The infusion rate depend on the indication for administration .compair to the colloid fluids it can administer faster.it may require a pressure apparatus to the bag of fluid to achive a higher infusion rate.

colloid fluids

colloid fluids are more expencive than crystalloids .it can stay longer in the intravascular space.colloids have slow infusion rate compair to the crystalloids.

Answer q--2

Elevating the intravenous fluid bag help to increase the flow rate.It is commonly used in the administration of crystalloids and colloid fluids to increase the flow rate.
