apply the 4 stage model of forgiveness to a real life example of reconciliation. how well does this model reflect what happened in this case? what do u learn from this example. EXPLAIN IN DETAIL
Four steps to forgiveness can be explained with the help of following example. In 19th century, Britishers enslaved Indian population gradually by engraving certain negative values in its leadership. In 20th centure, India got its freedom back and decided to forgive britishers by following the four stage of model of forgiveness.
Its steps are explained as follows :
1) Stating the forgiveness goal : India had a lot to state in this goal i.e british opppression, resources capture by them etc. India initiated forgiveness by recognising the need to forgive.
2) Acknowledging situational greivences : Now, after stating goal to forgive, India accumulated all greivances with britishers and vent it out in open in a war-free manner.
3) Aspiring fot the benefits of forgiveness : Now, since keeping cruel intentions would have been a negative venture for both indians and britishers, India aspired to acknowledge that reconciliation is the best way to proceed for the betterment of both countrys' interest.
4) Commitment to forgiveness : After above 3 steps, it became easier to commit forgiveness for national moral and economical interest. Indians have never been at war with britishers after freedom for this reason only.
Hence, we can learn from this example that if two nations can coexist peacefully after such master-slave relationship, anything can be forgived if the intentions are right.
