b) what drip rate will you set (macro 10 drops/ml )?
c) a pump becomes available. what will you set the pump at for the piggyback infusion.
Order is For Crystapent 750,000 units IV 6 hourly
Drug used is 1000,000 unit vial with 1.8 ml sterile water to make a final of 2 ml that is Furthur diluted into a 50 ml minibag so
Now Total Volume = 50 ml which contains 1000,000 unit drug
a.) As we ought to give only 750,000 unit drug only so Volume required is -
1000,000 units drug is present in = 50 ml
1 unit of drug is present in = (50/ 1000,000 )
750,000 units are present in (50/1000,000) X 750,000
= 37.5 ml
so we need to give 37.5 ml of drug for the solution created.
b.) Drip rate = Total Volume of infusion/total time taken
= 37.5 / 45 = 0.833 ml/minute
In drops/ml it will be -
As 1 ml = 10 drops so,
0.83 ml = 8.3 drops
Hence drip rate = 8.3 drops/minute
(C) An intermittent IV medication may be called a piggyback medication, a secondary medication. Intravenous medications may be given in small volumes of sterile IV solution (25 to 250 ml) and infused over a desired amount of time (given for 30 minutes every 4 hours) or as a single dose.
The pump Will be set to deliver the 750,000 units of drug in 30 minutes the rate will be set according to the amount of volume the pump Contains so accordingly the Values will Change.
