Mr Ojomu is a 42 year male of African origin. He has a demanding desk-based job and frequently has to work long hours. He rarely eats regular meals and so has developed a habit of snacking on foods with high salt, fat and sugar contents. He routinely drinks at least 4 cups of coffee a day and at least one bottle of coca cola. Recently he has noticed that he has put on weight and easily gets out of breath when walking, he feels tired on waking, often suffers muscular aches and pains and experiences bouts of anxiety over his workload.
Using four of the systems from the list below, explain what steps
Mr Ojomu should take to improve his overall physical and mental
health. Include in your answer how the body systems you have
selected work together to normalise body functions. 500 words
Human body systems
• The endocrine system
• The nervous system
• The cardio-vascular system
• The respiratory system
• The urinary system
• The lymphatic and immune system
This is the whole question, i didn't leave anything out. Help me solve this.
The nervous system
First, we have notice that Mr Ojomu drink a lot of coffee, so this is the first issue with his health condition. Coffee has direct effects on the central nervous system because It has a stimulating effect on the brain. When a person drinks a huge amount of coffee, he will develop insomnia, excitation, hyperactivity, nervousness and anxiety. We have observed that Mr Ojomu suffer from anxiety which could be the effect of caffeine. Caffeine is very similar to adenosine, which will trick the brain by binding to adenosine receptors. This will bloc the accumulation of this chemical, which will sometimes cause the brain to become active and feel even more tired than normal. That’s why, the more coffee you drink, the more you have to drink to survive the day and you can develop dependence. If Mr Ojomu wants to drink something with caffeine, he could substitute coffee with black tea. Tea has less concentration of caffeine and is healthier.
The cardio-vascular system
Another bad habit thet Mr Ojomu has is the excess of fats. Excess fat in the blood causes poor circulation. The fat does not flow in an agile way in the circulatory system, so the oxygenation of the body is not carried out properly and it can obstruct veins and arteries causing the increase of cholesterol and triglycerides. Thus, the accumulation of fat not only damages the heart, but the entire blood circulation system. A recommendation for Mr Ojomu is to consume low fat food such as legumes, fish and fruits. Even if Mr Ojomu has to work long hours, he needs to cook his food before going the work.
The respiratory system
In this case, the effects on the respiratory system are directly correlated with the effects on the cardio-vascular system because if the blood system is affected by fat, the transport of oxygen will be affected as wells leading to feeling tired. Mr Ojomu has to follow a balance diet and include some morning exercise, this will allow to eliminate fat and improve his respiratory condition.
The lymphatic and immune system
It has been observed that a poorly balanced diet has a negative influence on immunological activity. The maintenance of the immune system requires a constant consumption of all the necessary vitamins and minels. As we can notice, Mr Ojomu has a poorly balanced diet which could impact directly on the immune system. It has been reported that people with a bad diet have a higher risk of getting infections. Additionally, the excessive contribution of energy can also affect the ability of the immune system to fight infections. For example, obesity is linked to a higher incidence of infectious diseases. IN addition, obese people are more likely to develop coronary heart disease, which is related to impaired immune function. The reduction of fats in the diet could influence the functioning of the immune system. If the fat content in the Mir Ojomu’s diet is reduced, the immunological activity increases. For this reason, Mr Ojomu needs to follow a balance diet. He needs to take time at night to cook his meals. Additionally, he needs to make some exercise in the morning before work.
