350 mL of D5W/0.25 NS containing 10 units of Regular insulin is started at 09:00AM at a rate of 20 gtt/min. If the drop factor is 15 gtt/ml, at what time will the infusion finish?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Sol.

As Flow Rate = 20 gtt / min

Drop factor = 15 gtt / mL

Total Volume = 350 mL

So , Time required for infusion finish

= Total Volume × Drop factor / Flow Rate

= 350 mL × 15 gtt / mL / ( 20 gtt / min )

= 263 min

= 4 hr 23 min

If the starting time is 09 : 00 AM , then , the finishing time is 01 : 23 PM
