MMSE is the Mini-Mental State Examination used to test for the problems related to memory and other mental abilities. It is a set of 30 Questionnaires prepared by the health care professional to assess the cognitive ( thinking ) impairment. Commonly happens in Dementia. The advantage of this is it does not require any additional medical equipment. The results are valid for the diagnosis.

Following abilities are assessed by MMSE:

  • Ability to plan - Skills that help an individual to develop strategies to complete goals.
  • concentration - it is the ability to do whatever works in a defined direction without causing distraction.
  • attention span - Time spent on concentration before distraction.
  • memory span - Collection of thoughts one can remember after one's presentation.
  • communication skills - Ability to talk with a group of people maintaining good posture, eye contact, and a wide range of vocabulary.
