A solution consisting of 221 mg of dopamine in 52mL of a solution is administered at a rate of 16 mL/hr. dopamine. If a patient is prescribed to receive 408 mg of dopamine, how long should the infusion last? the flow rate in mg of dopamine 68 is mg/hr

Solutions

Expert Solution

Given data,

Quantity of dopamine = 221 mg

Solution = 52mL

Thus conc of dopamine= 221/52 mg per mL

Prescribed level of dopamine = 408 mg

Let time the infusion lasts be t hrs

Rate of infusion = 16mL per hr = 16*221/58= 68 mg of dopamine per hr

Thus by the problem we get,

68t= 408

=> t= 408/68= 6 hours ....(answer)
