12. The patient has an order for oxytocin (Pitocin) to infuse at 14 mU/minute. Available is oxytocin 10 units/1000 mL 0.9% NaCl. At what rate will the nurse set the infusion? ___ mL/hr (If needed, round to the nearest whole number.)

How do you set this up using dimensional analysis please?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Ordered dose is 14milliunits per minute.

if we convert per minute to per hour... 14 milliunits per minute * 60 minutes

we will be getting 840 milliunits per hour...

Available oxytocin contains 10 units per 1000 milliliter...

so, if we divide 1000 millilitre to 10 units, we will be getting 100 milliliter per unit.

that is also converted to 100 milliliter per 1000 milliunits..

so, 100 ml / 1000 mu * 840 mu

by calculating, we will be getting 84..

so, we will see the infusion rate at 84 ml per hour.

I hope by the above information u got u r answer.

If u liked it then please give thumbs up ?..
