Wendy is 22 weeks pregnant with her third baby. Her other children are two and four years old. She gained 15 lbs. with each previous pregnancy. Her previous pregnancies were uncomplicated, so she was surprised to hear that she has developed gestational diabetes. She has always enjoyed eating extra desserts and snacks while she was pregnant, figuring she was eating for two. Plus, now that she has two small children, she reasons that she needs extra energy to take care of them too.

1) The most likely Mrs. Windy got gestaional diabetes during her third pregnancy and she was not during first and second the rason is she gained 15lb in each pregnancy and she use to have extra desserts and snack while she was pregnant and she use to have extra calories to take care of her two kids this may be the primary reason for her gestational diabetes in her third pregnancy.
other factors include weight gain is very fast during pregnancy , family history of diabetes and during pregnancy , placenta makes hormone that cause glucose to build up in blood.
2) The dietician may recomment a diabetic friendly diet which include low carb diet
plenty of whole fruits and vegetables
moderate amount of lean protein and healthy fat
avoidance of food that have sugar such as desserts soft drinks , ffruit juices etc and refined carbs
3) Mrs. Windy parents are known cases of diabetes and Mrs. Windy suffering diabetes during her third pregnancy. she can avoid DM in her advanced age by cutting sugar and refined carbs from her diet
work out regularly
instead of sugar beverages she can go for plain water
follow low carb diet.
she can control her portion of food she can include her diet 25 % carb, 25% protein 25% vegatebles rich in vitamins and mineral and 25% probiotics and good fats
4) blood glucose goal during pregnancy - For fasting < 90 mg/dl, preprandial < 105 mg/dl, postprandial < 130 mg/dl
nutritional modification include avoidance of refined carb and adding plant based carbs like potatos. sweet potatoes tapioca , yam etc
increase fibre intake
impliment portion control
choose food which contains low glycemic index
