If you were a globalization expert hired to advise a special committee in the United Nations which is charged with tackling the drug trafficking problem, what kind of advice would you give to them? Identify at least one global policy that would be effective in reducing drug trafficking, and one other policy that would not work as effectively. Explain briefly why the first would work but not the second. (Warning: the policy you will suggest has to be a "global policy", not a national policy that can be implemented only in the US. In other words the policy will have to take into consideration the needs of different cultures, and should be feasible to implement all over the world)
Drug trafficking is an organized crime which should be addressed collectively by various countries. One policy which can be used to tackle this issue on a global level can be - To solve the money laundering issue which would, in turn, be instrumental in tackling the transnational drug trafficking. However, due to the fact that different countries have different legal rules and also due to internal politics, this policy might be difficult to follow effectively.
The most basic and effective policy to tackle the global drug trafficking problem should be to raise awareness of its ill effects among the youth. The youngsters are the most affected and involved group. Hence, to change their thought process regarding drugs would be useful to minimise its use.
