Expert Solution

An interest group is also known as a lobby that has the potential to influence major foreign policy decisions. Every country has interest groups that eventually dictate its foreign policy directive.

More so in the United States of America, as Foreign policy is a major state instrument and that is increasingly why congress approval is required before any major decision is taken. Some of the time interest groups cannot sway decision makers, but for the most part, its role in political circles is well known and under-reported.

Saudi Arabia in consortium with few other middle eastern countries has a huge presence as an interest group in United States. This group is in direct conflict with the Israeli interest group which also has a good presence in US

Most of the group members are distinguished professionals from lawyers to congressman and enjoy a direct payment for services from the Saudi Arabian government.

Examples are:

1. Hill & Knowlton - public relations company actively operating from New York,

2. Hogan Lovells - a lawfirm in Washington.

Functions:

influence policy decision makers in their favor that will serve the interest of their country primarily.
