What can parents do to increase a child’s social cognitive skills and foster moral maturity? Your answers need to be specific and reflect the capabilities of the child's stage of development. (For example, you cannot expect a 6 year old to be able to construct hypothetical and abstract thought.)

1. Help children the reason behind rules, especially rules relating to moral concerns like justice,fairness and other aspects of human welfare. Discuss the difference between right and wrong behaviour.
2. Match your response to confict situations to the children's level of cognitive and social development. Young children are egocentric and will judge behaviours on how such things directly effect them.Encourage empathy in the child
3. Attend to the victim first if the child hurts another individual. Its important to make them understand the importance of others feelings when dealing with interpersonal conflicts.
4. Use children's literature to explain to them importance of caring.
5. Include animals in the classroom to help children understand the imporatnce of showing compassion to every living being.
6. Model,encourge and reward acts of caring. Appreciate the child's efforts whenever they show care towards someone else.
