Symptoms of GERD

* ​​​​​​The most common symptom of GERD is Heart burn. (Acid ingestion ) .when the heart burn occurs the client experience it as burning chest pain. It may last for 2 hours and gets usually worse after eating .

* Frequent sour taste of acid ,especially when lying down due to acid reflux .

* Sore throat -it occurs due to frequent acid reflux

* Difficulty in swallowing

* Sensitive to some food and liquid

* Nausea

* Pain in the chest or abdomen

* Feeling of chocking.

* Bloating

Signs of GERD

* Regurgitation - it is also a main sign of GERD where the food and liquid containing stomach acid comes back into the throat or mouth .

* Vomiting -frequent acid reflux create a sour taste in mouth leads to vomiting

* burping

Causes of GERD

There is no known single cause for GERD

when the lower esophageal sphincter become weak GERD will occur . Lower esophageal sphincter is a circular band of muscles situated at the end of esophagus .when the lower esophageal sphincter works properly it will relaxes and open when we swallow and keep tighten and close after wards . When it does not tighten or close properly ,it will leads the digestive juices and other content to rise up into the esophagus .

Other causes include :

* Smoking

* eating deep fried or spicy food

* Taking beverages like alcohol , caffeine or soda

* Lying down or sleeping soon after taking food

*Delayed emptying of stomach

* Eating large meals at a time
