Hair follicle is a part of integumentary system. The hair starts its growth from it. The root and body of the hair is situated in dermis and epidermis.
NORMAL ASSESSMENT FINDINGS.
1.COLOUR OF THE HAIR ( VARY ACCORDING TO THE RACE,AGE AND GEOGRAPHICAL FACTORS).MELANIN IS GIVING COLOUR TO THE HAIR .
2. SOFT OR SMOOTH AND HAS ADEQUATE STRENGTH.
3. ADEQUATE THICKNESS.
4. PRESENCE OF HAIR FOLLICLES IN THE WHOLE BODY EXCEPT THE PALMS , SOLES OF THE FEET, LIPS AND NIPPLES.
ABNORMAL FINDINGS
1.CHANGE IN THE NORMAL SKIN COLOUR MAY INDICATE MAL NUTRITION .
2. EXTREMELY DRY AND HARD HAIR FOLLICLES. MAY INDICATE ALSO MALNUTRITION OR THYROID GLAND RELATED ISSUES.
3. MARKED PRESENCE OF HAIR FALL.MAY INDICATE SOME DISEASE CONDITION AND MAL NUTRITION.
4.UNCLEAN,DIRTY AND BAD SMELL IN THE HAIR INDIACTE VERY POOR PERSONAL HYGIENE.
FINDINGS IN NEW BORN
NORMAL FINDING; THE AMOUNT OF HAIR IS VARY ,MAY BE IT IS VERY LESS, OR THICK . NO HAIR PRESENT IN PREMATURE BABIES MOSTLY . HAIR LOOKS DOWNY AND SOFT.
ABNORMAL; INSPECT THE HAIR LINE IF IT IS LOW IT MAY BE A SIGN OF THYROID ABNORMALITIES.
FINDING IN CHILDREN;
NORMAL FINDING; HEALTHY NORMAL COLOURED SKIN IN CHILDREN.
AXILLARY AND PUBIC HAIR PRESENT IN ADOLESCENTS.
FINDING IN OLDER PEOPLE; HAIR FALL AND GREYING IS VERY COMMON.
