Coding the hospital’s Emergency Department (ED) visits was Melissa’s favorite type of coding. She was the department expert whenever a fellow coder had ED coding questions for her. She felt very sure of her level of expertise and knowledge until Jamie started to work in her department.
Jamie was a new graduate with her RHIT credential. Melissa was excited to have Jamie join the team,but after two weeks of working with Jamie, Melissa's excitement quickly waned. In fact, Melissa felt defensive whenever Jamie asked her questions about basic coding rules. She never had this problem with other staff before. Melissa decided to talk with her manager, Maria, to see what could be done.

1.Ways for Melissa to address her concerns
Interpersonal conflicts occurs when 2 or more persons from different situations working together. Here , in the present situation Melissa is having an ego based conflict which is more complex which usually result in a disagrrement about how to handle a problem at hand and is complicated by the risk of damaging the sense of either Melisa's or Jamie's self esteem and perceived standing in working relationship.
Melissa should follow the the ways which listed below to address her concerns
2.Ways to solve the conflict
-Make both of the employees sit an have an open conversation with a supervisor if possible.
-understand them the importance of focusing on priorities of work rather than personal preferences
-Make them listen to each other carefully and gently
-Identify priorities of agreement and disagrement
-Prioritize areas of conflicts and make them understand how it affects the productivity.
-Make a plan and assign duties to each of them respectively.
-Understand them the need for following the protocol and need for team work.
3.Methods to avoid conflicts in the work place of nurses
Be alert; Have an idea in mind that sudden change in the hospital staffing and situations can arise conflicts in between co workers.
Recogonize early warning signs.;Make sure that there is adequate conversation and eyecontact between the staffs in the unit and they are working as a taem.
-have dircet converastions about the working conditions.
Explore ways to get correct feedback about the working conditions ;Try to throw "trial baloons" like casual conversations.This might help in return get feedback about the working relationship and help you to understand the idea of specific situations
Intervene at an early stage ; Address the problem before it escalate and damaging the unit morale.
Listen objectively ; If the co worker or the staff in the unit put forward a valid critisism try to accept it.
Get to the root of the problem.; The surfacing statements may not be the real cause of the conflict .
Try to explore the problem by having the direct conversations.
Be supportive ; Show that you care for co worrkers problem eventhough you may not be able to solve it
Assign the duties specifically to each staff to avoid future conflicts
Take action and keep your word ; If you find the problem is genuine and needed to be get solved meet with the higher authorities and discuss about the pertinent factors.
