Suppose a car rental agency has three locations in Jakarta: North Jakarta (labelled as N), West Jakarta (labelled as W), and South Jakarta (labelled as S). The agency has a group of delivery drivers to serve all three locations. The agency statistician’ has determined the following data:

1)Of the calls to N, 30% are delivered in N, 30% are delivered in W, and 40% are delivered in S

2)Of the calls to W, 40% are delivered in N, 40% are delivered in W, and 20% are delivered in S.

3)Of the calls to S, 50% are delivered in N, 30% are delivered in W, and 20% are delivered in S.

If on Monday, the drivers that begins in N, 30% will again be in N, 30% will be in W, and 40% will be in S, what is the percentage in every location on Wednesday?

Expert Solution

ANSWER:--

GIVEN THAT:--

Let 100n drivers begin in N on Monday.

Then 30n drivers will be in N, 30n drivers will be in W and 40n drivers will be in S. Thus, this will be the situation of drivers beginning on Tuesday.

Of the 30n drivers beginning at N on Tuesday, 9n will be in N, 9n will be in W and 12n will be in S.
Of the 30n drivers beginning at W on Tuesday, 12n will be in N, 12n will be in W and 6n will be in S.
Of the 40n drivers beginning at S on Tuesday, 20n will be in N, 12n will be in W and 8n will be in S.
So, on Wednesday, 41n drivers will begin from N, 33n drivers will begin from W and 26n drivers will begin from S.

Of the 41n drivers beginning at N on Wednesday, 12.3n drivers will be in N, 12.3n drivers will be in W and 16.4 drivers will be in S.
Of the 33n drivers beginning at W on Wednesday, 13.2n drivers will be in N, 13.2n drivers will be in W and 6.6n drivers will be in S.
Of the 26n drivers beginning at S on Wednesday, 13n drivers will be in N, 7.8n drivers will be in W and 5.2n drivers will be in S.

So, on Wednesday, 38.5n drivers will be in N, 33.3n drivers will be in W and 28.2n drivers will be in S.

Hence, the required percentage is:

N: 38.5%, W: 33.3% and S:28.2%
