Explain how a person with a disability can access and make use of an advocate/advocacy service to lodge a complaint.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Disability Advocacy NSW (DA) is a program of Advocacy Law Alliance Inc. DANSW provides non legal advocacy services to people with a disability and the MNCCLC provides legal advocacy to disadvantaged groups.

Disability advocacy may include:

  1. Providing information to people with disability about their human rights and identifying instances of discrimination.
  2. Assisting people with disability to uphold their rights by speaking with and writing to people and organisations to raise awareness of problems and seek solutions.

An advocate is simply someone who supports you and fights for your cause; in the world of Social Security disability, this means an advocate answers your questions, works with your doctors to get the proper records, represents you at hearings, and generally helps you win disability benefits.

The code of conduct imposes five obligations that all disability service workers must abide by: A disability service worker must provide services without engaging in abuse, exploitation, harassment or neglect. A disability service worker must report any form of abuse or suspected abuse.
