Expert Solution

Laboratory is the area where many micro organisms are involved . In lab we are dealing with very highly infectious organism which can cause high risk to human beings. accidental release of these microorganisms may cause harmful effect to the society . If you are using laboratory , you must follow certain rules and regulations in case of tools and techniques.

  • Dress code - You must wear a dress that cannot invade by pathogen to enter into your body. You must wear a mask and gloves to protect you and also helps to control the spreading of the pathogen.
  • use disinfectants and antiseptic agents like alcohol or phenolic compounds to clean the lab and your clothes and your body especially hands
  • sterilize the tools and equipments - sterilize the tools and equipments used in the experiment by using uv radiation or any other chemical agents to avoid accidental release of pathogens
  • Safety equipments - lab is well equiped with all safety equipments , it can be used if any accidents happen.

Techniques

  • flaming - flaiming the equipments and testtubes to prevent microbial infection
  • uv sterilization- sterilize materials used in lab in uv light
  • Dispose the waste materials properly
  • donot eat or drink inside the lab
  • you must follow the correct procedure doing an an experiment
  • limited access to the lab

In an organic chemistry lab we were looking at the substrate and nucleophile effects in Sn2 reactions. Our experimental data showed that 1-bromobutane with 1.0mL of 0.25M NaI in 2-Butanone reacted faster than 1-bromobutane with 1.0mL 0.50M NaI in 2-butanone. Also, our experimental data showed that 1-bromobutane with 1.0mL of 0.50M NaI reacted faster than 1-bromobutane with 2.0mL of 0.05M NaI. These result are the opposite of the theoritcal rate aren't they? From my understanding, the Sn2 reaction rate should...

In our chem lab, we were testing for an unknown equilibrium "k" value using the absorbency rates of various concentrations, how am i supposed to find the k value if none of our samples ever reached equilibrium. Our prof said to calculate the absorbency of each sample, but all the values are obviously different.
