The object of drug therapy is providing more advantages with less damage.The effectiveness of the drug therapy must be evaluated for therapeutic outcome.
There are different drug therapies like 1. Acute therapy 2. Maintenance therapy. 3.Supplemental therapy. 4. Palliative therapy. 5. Supportive therapy. 6. Prophylactic therapy. 7. Empiric therapy.
1. Acute therapy: These drugs are used to sustain or cure diseases in patient.
2. Maintenance therapy: This therapy drugs are used to prevent the progression of chronic diseases such as hypertension.
3.Supplemental therapy: This type of drugs supply substances not available to the body, such as insulin for diabetic clients.
4. Palliative therapy: Drugs used for pallitive therapy are used to maintain comfort.
5. Supportive therapy.: This drug therapy helps maintain body functions.
6. Prophylactic therapy: Prophylactic drugs help prevent illness and have scientific evidence to support their use.
7. Empiric therapy.: Empiric drugs works with actions from past experience rather than scientific evidence.

The goal of this evalution is promote optimal medication therapy and ensure that drug therapy meets current standards of care. it can be achived by :
- creating guidelines for appropriate drug utilization,
- evaluating effectiveness of drug therapy,
- preventing medication related problems like adverse drug reactions, treatment failures, over-use, under-use, incorrect doses and non formulary medicine use.
