United Nations (UN), international organization
established on October 24, 1945.
According to its Charter, the UN aims:
"to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war,…to
reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights,…to establish conditions
under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from
treaties and other sources of international law can be maintained,
and to promote social progress and better standards of life in
larger freedom."
UN has done a good job so far but nothing can be perfect in this
dynamic world.so there are some steps which can increase the
effectiveness of the united nations and other international
organisation,which are following:-
- UN and other international organisation motto should be
"Work for people, not for the governments".it
means UN should move away from the state-centric model of
international governance towards a citizen-oriented model.In simple
words UN should work for the welfare of human-being, it should not
be state centric.
- UN and other international organisation should be more
Transparent,so that the public knows the great
work they have been doing.
- UN and other international organisation should Include
all countries. There are still some countries which are
not a part of these organisations so UN should work for including
all the countries.
- New media, including mobile and social media, could help
demystify international institutions and encourage
participation.
- On the UN security council, it is necessary to find a more
balanced regional representation.
- De-centralise the structure: UN and other
international organiisation can decentalise its structure to
increase its effectiveness.
- The UN is there to deliver global public goods. The future
financing of the UN should reflect this. We need a system where all
countries contribute, according to their capabilities and
responsibilities, based on specific criteria that reflect levels of
economic development and population.
- Show leadership on human rights:There needs to
be more resources put into the Office of the High Commission for
Human Rights because they are very stretched thin now.
- The UN should focus on cutting expenses through technology and
innovation.
These above changes UN and other International organizations can
consider to increase their effectiveness.
