Draw three-dimensional representations of the
following amino acids. Explain their
structures.
(a) L-phenylalanine
(b) L-histidine
(c) D-serine
(d) L-tryptophan
(a)
It is also known as F or endorphenyl, it belongs to a class of phenylalanine & derivatives. Phenylalanine & it's derivatives are compounds containing phenylalanine or a derivative there of it resulting from reaction of phenylalanine at the amino group or carboxy group, or from the replacement of any Hydrogen of the glycine by a heteroatom.
Molecular formula-
C6H10CIN3O2
(b) It is an alpha amino acid. It consists alpha amino group, a carboxylic acid group and an imidazole side chain, it is classifying as a positively charged amino acid at physiological pH.
D-serine is a selective full agonist with the glycine site of N-methyl-D-aspertate type glutamate receptor. It is a non-essential amino acid and dextro isomer serine with antipsychotic activity.
(d) It is also known as Trp or W , belongs to the class of organic compounds and it known as Indolyl carboxylic acids. Compounds containing a carboxylic acid chain with atleast 2 carbon atoms & linked to an indole ring.
