A volcano has decimated the flora and fauna in a forest area of Argentina. Describe the succession stages and regrowth of vegetation that takes place.
The Volcano decimated forest area only have bare rocks to begin with, intially pioneer species will inhabit later the complexity of organisms increase this type of succession is called primary succession. there are mainly 4 steps
1.Pioneer species like lichens grow on bare rocks and volcanic reminants. The acids secreted by lichen along with licken reminats start formation of soil.
2. After many years when soil is deep enough more complex oraganism plants like mosses start to grow. Some small insects can also be seen. growth of mosses and movement of insects along with their reminent add futher soil.
3.larger more complex plants like ferns grow when level of soil is further increased. After ferns ,small grasses and wild flowers are also succeeded. When soil is deep enough shrubs and smalll trees move into this area.
4. Soil become deep enough after 100 or 1000's of years for pine or hardwood forests
