Taste ad smell are called chemical senses because their receptors are sensitive to molecules in the food we eat and in the air we breathe. both are represented as CHEMORECEPTORS.
taste buds contain chemoreceptors and are present primarily in tongue.
sense of cell perceive as taste is actually to smell, and that is 85% approx.
when we eat something, we can tell the difference between bitter and sweet. it is the sense of smell that is used to differentiate. although we commonly differentiate taste as one sense and smell as another, they both work together to create a opinion of flavour.
commonly if a person has very bad cold or his or her nassal passages block due to cold. than its not possible to smell something through nassal chamber. if we eat something without smell than we have gut that is epiglottis, tract that they send the signals to the brain about smell. and we got the smell of the product. both are dependable to each other.
