Medical marijuana is a controversial subject that appears in the news on a regular basis. Should it be legalized for medical purposes, for any purpose (like in Colorado), or should the new strain of Cannabis (Charlotte’s Web), which has less than 0.3% THC (this is the chemical that creates the high) be used instead? The formal paper for this class will discuss the two types of marijuana and whether either one should be legalized for medical purposes or legalized for general purposes. Meet the page of 3-4 pages
I will give you a like and a comment
Medically use of marijuana needs to be permitted as it has shown its effects in many clinical trials. Charlotte's web was developed by the Stanley Brothers in 2011. It has high content of CBD and lower THC which produces high. It has shown to be effective in convulsive seizures of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome.
Cannabis is broken into two species: Cannabis indica and Cannabis sativa. By evolving in isolated locations, C. indica and C. sativa adopted distinct characteristics in how they look and how they feel when they are ingested. A short plant with broad leaves may be sedating while a long plant with narrow leaves may be energizing. However the differentiation of C. Indica and C. Sativa cannot me made merely on their physical cannabidiol characteristics. It is the chemical makeup of the plant, that is responsible for the varying effects experienced from different marijuana strains in different individuals. There is a distinction between two types of cannabis that do appear to fit within the C. sativa and C. indica genetic categories: marijuana and hemp plants. When it comes to genetics, hemp is more similar to C. indica and marijuana to C. sativa. This means that few marijuana plants would share more of their DNA with C. indica than C. sativa, leaving marijuana plants more sativa than indica. The chemical composition of cannabis has two most important constituents THC (Tetra hydracannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol). Remember here that it the THC component which is responsible for the high and not the CBD. This is because CBD does not bind effectively to our endocannabinoid system - the body’s unique system that regulates elements such as sleep, appetite and our immune system. It’s this binding action that gives you that ‘high’ feeling. THC initiates a psychological response via the endocannabinoid system’s cannabinoid 1 receptors (CBD1), found primarily in the central nervous system and the brain. When the CB1 receptor is activated, it produces a psychoactive effect.
Some points regarding C. Indica :
The Cannabis Indica plant is thought to be originated in middle east some parts of Africa, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Tibet.
It has higher content of CBD than C. Sativa though the ratio of CBD : THC is around close to 1:1. Cannabis indica is an effective pain reliever with a flat and relaxing high.
Some points regarding C. Sativa :
It is thought that C. Sativa comes from warmer regions like Southeast Asia and South and Central America. Cannabis sativa plants contain more THC than CBD. It is a general perception that sativa gives you a creative and energizing high.
Whether marijuana be made legal for medical purpose?
Short answer Yes. There are a number of researchs showing use of cannabis for medical purposes. It has been shown to be effective in nausea post chemotherapy, improves tics in tourette syndrome, improvement of anorexia in hiv, arthritis, glaucoma, migraine. As more clinical trials have not be done regarding use of cannabis in pregnancy it is recommended that it should not be used during pregnancy. Many studies have found that cannabis is more effective in controlling the chemotherapy induced nausea than some drugs like metoclopromide, prochlorperazine and promethazine. Countries that have legalized the medical use of cannabis include Australia, Brazil,Canada,Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic,Finland, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy,Jamaica, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Peru,Poland, Portugal, Sri Lanka,Thailand, the United Kingdom, and Uruguay.
Should cannabis be made legal For general public?
There is a lot of debate going on whether to legalize marijuana for general public. Through public awareness regarding the uses and toxic effects of marijuana this can be made possible. One more advantage on making marijuana legal is that people will know which strain of marijuana they are consuming and they will be able to choose the level of THC based on their individual capacity. However this has its own drawbacks as rampant use of cannabis will spoil the young generation and prolonged uses can also cause cognitive problems. Hence through proper laws it can be made legal. Countries which have made marijuana legal for recreational purposes are Canada, Mexico, Argentina, United States ( differs state by state), Columbia, Peru, Uruguay.
Hope this helps!!
