What are the types of damage that can occur to cargo in international ocean transport, and how damage can be caused in transit and storage? What can the shipper do to mitigate such damage from occurring? (need about 900 words )
During international ocean transport, the cargo undergoes changes from place to place and this movement will make the material to undergo stress and hence might tear off or break. If the waves are high the movement might cause the material to shake and this will also cause damage to the cargo. Even the people handling the material might throw it roughly while loading and unloading which might cause damage. So the material undergoes changes in position and is moved from one place to other when in transit. When it is moved to storage many items are piled one above the other and this might also damage the material.
In order to reduce these damages the packing of the material must be done using safe sheets and must be wrapped properly so that it does not break even if it shakes or stumbles Safety sheets must be placed on all sides of the material and while storing the material products must not be placed one above the other. The people loading and unloading the cargo must be well trained to handle the material with care and must not use fore while placing it down or lifting it. Smooth handling of material during transit and taking precautions to prevent pressure on it can help the shipper to mitigate the damages .
