What types of energy conversions (transformations) occur during photosynthesis?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Chloroplast contain molecules know as PS1 ans PS2 and other light harvesting molecules , which upon exitation by sunlight in the form of photon , release electrons . These excited electron then passes through series of protein in order to form ATP and NADPH and causes the breakdown of water molecule and release 1 molecule of oxygen . This is light reaction .

The energy produced from ATP and NADPH is used in light independent pathway (dark reaction) , for fixing CO2 and glucoseby the most abundant enzyme , RUBISCO .

Thus kinetic energy of photon converted to electrical energy and then to chemical energy .

In simple words , light - electrical - chemical are the energy transformation that are taking place in the chloroplasts.
