Thinking back to the “Practical Framework for Changing Behaviours” reading in module 1 (Health Communication Network, 2004), how do the constructs of the Health Belief Model and the Transtheoretical Model “fit” into the eight conditions that must be true for a person to perform that behavior?
In general terms a person to perform certain behavior one or more of the following must be true.
1. The Person must have Formed a strong positive intention (or made a commitment) to perform the behaviour
2.There are no environmental constrains that make it impossible to perform the behaviour.
3.The person has the skills necessary to perform that
behavior.
4. The Person believe that the advantages (benefits, anticipated to
positive outcomes ) of performing the behaviour out weigh the
disadrantages (costs, anticipated negative Outcomes)
5. The person perceives more social (normative) pressure to performance of the behaviour than to not perform.
6.The Person perceives that performance of the behaviour is more consistent than inconsistent with his orher self image or that it's performance does not violatePersonal standard.
7.The persons eemotional reaction to performing the behaviour is
more positive than negative
8.The Person perceives that he or she has the Capabilities to
perform the behaviour under a number of different
Circumstances.
Health belief model shows that the health behavior is determined by personal beliefs or perception about a disease and strategies available to decrease its occurance.
Transtheoretical model shows that the individuals readiness to changethebehaviour.
These two theories fit to 8 conclusions that is made out of behaviour changes of a person.
