The magnetic susceptibility of diamagnetic materials is nearly independent of temperature, but this is not so for paramagnetic materials, whose susceptibilities decrease with increasing temperature. Why do paramagnetic materials display this behavior, and why don’t diamagnetic materials do the same?

Which of the following statements is true about diamagnetic materials? Diamagnetism is a property that appears in all materials, but that in paramagnetic and ferromagnetic substances, the diamagnetic effect is overcome by other forms of magnetism. Diamagnetic materials, such as the gadolinium transition metal, are particularly useful as contrast agents in diagnostic procedures such as MRI. A compound with twelve diamagnetic electrons and one paramagnetic electron is strongly diamagnetic and only weakly paramagnetic. Diamagnetic materials form internal and induced magnetic...

An electron is moving north; what direction should a magnetic field be oriented, so the magnetic force on the electron just balances the gravitational force? A square loop is in the x-y plane, with its top and bottom parallel with the x-axis, and its sides parallel with the y-axis. It carries a clockwise current when viewed from the positive z-axis.    There is a constant magnetic field pointed in the x-axis direction.  What are then directions of the magnetic forces on the four...
