What are the limits of patient confidentiality? Are there situations in which a duty to warn or otherwise protect third parties might exist? Provide a rationale for your position
The limits of patients confidentiality includes following parameters
1) According to the code of conduct medical practitioners are liable to maintain a patient’s confidentiality, Main patient rights involve respect for human dignity, receiving standard health services, right to being informed, consent from patient to do medical interventions, respect the privacy of private life of patient care and treatment .
However in some cases there are some exceptions such as:
*In case of serious risk to the patient or another person.
*Where the confidentiality of a patient is required by law
*When it becomes a part of approved research.
A medical practitioner is law abiding to follow the duty of confidentiality in relation to information obtained as part of the therapeutic relationship.It include
Scans,X-rays,Reports,Test results
The concept of the need to take necessary actions to protect third parties includes
1)Protection from violent acts of clinicians' patients has become very complex issues.
(2). It is important to identify the clinician's duty to protect as a law obligation and take reasonable steps to protect third parties from patients harmful conduct.
3) The moral or ethical decision whether to do or not to do this.
Rationale
Nurses are bind to protect confidential information of patients, unless it is required by law to disclose the information. It include
1 Stick to workplace security and privacy policies in protecting confidentiality of patient information.
2. Understand and being responsible as a law abiding person and following HIPAA rules and regulations.
