Solution
Growth monitoring (GM) is commonly used procedures to check the weight and height of a baby and comparing with the ideal or a standard group. This usually performs in numerous community based healthcare settings to assess the optimum growth status of a child and to decide the possible interventions with respect to diet or indication of a medical condition. Although many questions has been raised now with regard to the effectiveness of the programme in making an impact on the optimum nutrition. From the 80’s, GM programme was one of the four most important programme in healthcare to evaluate the child health and survival and assessment of the nutrition issues although as time passes question arises owing to the low quality service and the ability of the community health care workers. Further it has also noticed in several literatures that the implementation quality of GM is very low in healthcare setting, difficult to scale up and unavailability to the possible resources for more effective nutrition and possible medical intervention. But the practical scenario is that many countries specifically developing countries still implementing GM programme as the major community based programme for checking the nutrition status within the growing children. Hence there must not be any strong conclusion regarding the benefits of the GM programme.
