As far back as 2003, there were approximately 400,000 embryos in frozen storage in the U.S., and there is undoubtedly more, now. What should be done with these excess embryos if they're not used for anything? Explain your answer. Keep in mind, in crafting your solution, that some people are opposed to embryonic stem cell research, so it's not as simple as just saying "use them for research."
What to do with Frozen embryos ..?
Embryo refers to the stage , after the fertilization of the egg, upto the end of seventh week, that precedes the development into a fetus. As a result of the knowledge spurt in 20th century 'In vitro fertilisation' ( IVF) was introduced, and first successful IVF baby Louise Brown born on 1977. Since then many millions of IVF are happening in U.S every year. As a result of this procedure many embryos were left behind by infertile couple who underwent IVF treatment, as with each IVF procedure, there may be 4 to 6 embryos get produced.
Many millions of embryos got left over in the U.S laboratories as a result of IVF procedures and are kept in a frozen stage for the future use.
The couple can decide over what to do with their embryos ,either ;
* to keep with them for future use ,for an another child
* to donate the embryos for the treatment for other children ; stem cell treatment.
* to give the embryo to another infertile couple as for embryo adoption
* Donate the embro for research purpose
or
* to discard the embryo.
Couple can decide over it and the Laboratories are not in a position to take thete own decisions as there may be Advanced health directives and the need of Consent from family. Ultimate decision over embryos should be taken by the couple as it is an Ethical and moral matter. Some may not like to donate the embryos for research, treatment or for adoption and some hesitate to discard it. To store the embryos, the couple has to pay a certain amount to laboratories.
