Which of the following drug specifies would you prefer for a possible drug to treat human infection?
A. drug that interferes with gyrase
B. a drug that interferes with eukaryotic DNA polymerase
C. a drug that interferes with an nuclear membrane stability
D. a drug that interferes with a eukaryotic topoisomerase activity
Answer: A. drug that interferes with gyrase
Comments: The differential characteristics of compound between the infectious organisms/pathogen and the human can be used for the treatment of infection of dieseases. The DNA gyrase is mostly present in the prokaryotic organisms (not in eukaryotic organisms ex-human), this is that differential characteristic between pathogenic organisms and human. The DNA gyrase is an essential bacterial enzyme that catalyses the ATP-dependent negative supercoiling of double stranded closed circular prokaryotic DNA. So by the use of gyrase specific drugs can inhibit the infectious microorganisms’ physiological functions, limit their growth that may leads to their death. However, others components like DNA polymerase, nuclear membrane stability and eukaryotic topoisomerase activity are essential for human. So if any such drugs that can inhibit these components harm the human too.
