1) Some designers suggest that speech recognition should be used in a telephone menu system. This would allow users to interact with the system by speaking instead of pressing buttons on the dial pad. Give two arguments for and two arguments against the proposal.
2) Explain the difference between direct-control and indirect-control pointing devices. Name a task when the one type is a more appropriate device than the other.
(350 to 450 words per response)
1)
Advantages:
* It will be helpful with people with physical disabilities or people with vision problem. If there is speech recognition in the system, the communication with the system will be easier for them. They don't want to depend on others.
* Another advantage is the speed. The system captures the information from the speech of user at a faster rate than you actually type.
Disadvantages:
* Changes in the voice tone or the clarity can cause glitches. So the system will recognize this as invalid word.
* Lot of time is required for set-up and training the system. And cost also will be high.
* For the people who speaks quickly, the accuracy will be an issue. Accent also have a role in accuracy.
* For the best output, the environment should be quite. Background noise should be less. System won't recognize when the background noise is high. System can't differentiate between user's speech and the background noise(people speaks in the background).
