PERFORMANCE MEASURES - It Provide the hospital the system to monitor care and procedure which lead to Improve quality of health care to patients like patient safety indicators etc.

FOUR CATEGORIES OF MEASURES -

1. STRUCTURE MEASURES - These are measures to assess the infrastructure capacity and system in hospital s . These measures give patients high quality health care by assessing health care providers capacity system and processes. It reflects the environment in which hospital operate . For Example - whether thehospital participates in a Cardiac Surgery Registry or uses a safe surgery checklist , whether the hospital are using EHR electronic medical records of it's patients.

2. PROCESS MEASURES - Most of health care quality measures used for public reporting are process measures. It informs people about medical care facilities that they expect in hospital for a given condition or disease. It also indicate what providers takes steps to maintain Improve health care . It generally reflects accepted recommendations for clinical practice. For Example -. Whether inventory checks were made , or whether protocols are set up for reassessment nutrition and skin care , percentage of people receiving preventive services, process helps in tracking and measuring the performance.

3. Outcome measures- it represents the Gold Standard in measuring quality. It reflects the implication of health care services or intervention in the health care of patients, CMS group outcome measures in 7 categories like mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, effectiveness of care , timelines of care , efficient use of medical imaging , but an outcome is the result of numerous factors and many are beyond provider country.
