Choose an outside paper to present to the class that examines issues of validity of self-reported height and weight data within a specific sub-group. Summarize the methods and key findings, and discuss your assessment of the researcher’s decisions or conclusions. How can the findings of this paper be applied to future research to improve the validity of these measures? What special considerations related to the sub-group should researchers take into account? What is validity?
validity is a measure or examination of what it claims to measure or examine.
what is validity of self reported data?
self reported data :-self reported data is in the form of poll, quetionnarie,or survey in which respondent select the response without the interference of the researcher.
Validity of self reported data:-when their is challenge to validity, their are research tools that can report the problem respondent bias in self reported data.
Introduction:- The self-reported data by the U. S teens reports the following :-
To better understand the epidemiology of overweight and obesity, their is requirement of accurate data collection of height and weight ,BMI (body mass index) .
BMI:- Body Mass Index is a persons weight in kilograms and height in meter square .BMI is very important for systematic establishment of -
Methods:-
Research design -Here we study the difference between perdictive capacity of body weight and self perception of body weight, also the healthy lifestyle behavior among the African American female teens.
We carry out two different subanalysis -
Sample :-parent study, N=310 essentially healthy African American female teens of age 14-18years were recruited from New Orleans, Louisiana using combination probability /nonprobability sample strategy.
Inclusion criteria-
Exclusion criteria -
Approval obtained from school administrators, written consent form parents and assent from participants were obtained.
Instruments and measurements :-
statistical analysis:-frequency and measure of variability were used to evaluate normal distribution ,accurate description summarization of study variables and calculate the incidence of BMI missclassification.
Result :-
demographic character :-
mean participant age was 15.94years(SD=1.2),mean grade was 10.3(SD=1.1).Averages for measured weight, height were (m=64.4,SD=12.2)and(m=160.5,SD=6.8)respectively.
