Writing Equations of Lines

Write the slope-intercept form of the equation of the line given the slope and y-intercept.

Slope = -5, y-intercept = -3

Write the slope-intercept form of the equation of the line given the slope and y-intercept.

Slope = -1, y-intercept = 5

Write the slope-intercept form of the equation of the line.

y – 5 = -10(x – 4)

Write the slope-intercept form of the equation of the line.

Write the slope-intercept form of the equation of the line through the given point with the             given slope.

Through: (4,-4), slope = 2

Write the slope-intercept form of the equation of the line through the given point with the             given slope.

Through: (-5,1), slope = undefined

Write the slope-intercept form of the equation of the line through the given points.

Through: (3,-3) and (4,0)

Write the slope-intercept form of the equation of the line through the given points.

Through: (3,5) and (0,1)

Write the standard form of the equation of the line given the slope and y-intercept.

Slope = -2, y-intercept = -2

Write the standard form of the equation of the line given the slope and y-intercept.

Through: (1,2), slope = 6

Solutions

Expert Solution

Slope intercept form of a equation is y=mx+c

Where m=slope of the line and c is a Y-intercept

Slope-intercept form of a line where slope=-5 and y-intercept =-3 is

Y=-5x-3

Slope-intercept form of a line where slope=-1 and Y-intercept =5 is

Y=-x+5

Slope-intercept form of a line, y-5=-10(x-4)

y-5=-10x+40

Y=-10x+45 (slope intercept form)

The slope -intercept form of a line passing through (4,-4) and slope =2

Y=2x+c

Substituting( 4,-4) in above we get c=-12

Therefore the equation is y=2x-12

We know that, the vertical line slope is undefined

The equation of line passing through (-5,1) is x=-5

The equation of a line passing through (3,-3), and (4,0)

Slope m=-3/-7=3/7

Now y=3/7x+c

Substitute (4,0) in above equation

C=7/3*4=7/12

Y=3/7x+7/12

The slope intercept form of a equation (3,5) and (0,1)

Then m=4/3

Y=(4/3)x+c

Substitute (0,1) in above equation c=3/4

Then y=(4/3)x+(3/4)

The standard form of a straight line is ax+by=c

Where a, b, c are real numbers

Y=-2x-2

2x+y=-2

The standard form of the equation of a line passing through (1,2) and slope=6

Y=6x+c

Substitute (1,2) in above equation

Then c=-4

Y=6x-4

-6x+y=-4 (which is a standard form)
