Typical dental insurance allows two pediatric dental x-rays annually. Research and discuss whether you think two dental x-rays a year are considered safe for growing children.
Children are very much sensitive to radiations and X rays. However, the amount of radiation in a dental x-ray is still considered safe for a child. Food and Drug Administration say that for high-risk preschoolers who have had cavities in their baby teeth, dentists should consider X-rays every six to 12 months. But for the very young who have never had a cavity, X-rays should be considered only every 12 to 24 months.
