Do you think insurers should be allowed to consider an applicant's genetic information when setting the terms of an insurance policy? Why or why not?
First of all let me tell u that the answer to this question can be in either way depending upon the perception of the individual thought.
In my opinion the answer is yes insurers should be allowed to consider an applicant's genetic information when setting the terms of an insurance policy.
Reason: Genetic information is not different from any other health information and an insurance policy means a truthful and honest agreement between the two parties and as a result an applicant is liable to disclose the genetic information to the company. Patients with high health risks like cancer may seek a life insurance policy without letting the insurance company know about the life threatening disease. In this case let the insurance company to have the genetic record of the person and let it to decide whether to provide the life insurance coverage or not. In that way the bond will be strongly fair between the contracting parties.
