Answer-
a) Micelle and vesicles are composed of amphipathic phospholipids, which have hydrophilic head and hydrophobic fatty acid tails. Micelle is spherical shaped structure consisting single layer of phospholipids. Vesicles are double layered ball shaped structure.
b) When phospholipids are mixed with water, they aggregate to form different structures. In spherical micelle, hydrophobic chains of fatty acids are sequestered at the core of sphere where there is no water. Hydrophilic heads are present at water rich side. In vesicles, two dimensional bilayer folds on itself to form closed bilayer, thus appearing in a hollow ball like structure. Here, head groups are present at both the ends whereas, hydrophobic tails are present in between.
