Case : A 64-year old man who was recently told by his physician
that he needed to begin taking insulin for his diabetes is afraid
of needles. He has had diabetes for 20 years and doesn’t think this
new plan is necessary. He is very concerned about administering his
own injections. The provider responds by instructing the patient on
the physiology, because she believes the foundation for diabetes
education is to understand how the illness works.
Question1: Think back to Serena. Describe her state of
health.
Question2: Think about someone with physical damage, perhaps due to
a car accident. Also think about someone in your community who you
would consider to be physically disabled. According to the WHO
definition do you see them as healthy?

Diabetes mellitus is the condition in which glucose level in the blood is increased due to the decreased production of insulin or because of malfunction of the produced insulin in the bosy due to the insulin molecules cannot recognize the glucose molecules. Insulin is responsible for reduction in the blood glucose level. The management for diabetics include dietary management in which contolling the carbohydrate or glucose intake and pharmacological management. If the production of insulin is not take place we should administer insulin and also there are antihyperglycemic medications. The health status of the patient is due to increased blood glucose level the patient may suffer from delayed wound healing which leads to infection and risk of cardiovascular diseases also increases.

Physically disabled person is not considered to be healthy according to the definition of health given by WHO. According to the definition of WHO a healthy person must have well being in physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and all aspects. Then a person is said to be healthy. In case of physically disabled person there are disability in the physical aspect of the person and they are not considered to be healthy.
