Health Disruption

Disruption is where a change upsets current systems to such a point that the incumbents operating in that system cannot adopt to that change.

Interventions to prevent health disruption:

  • Enabling technology: an intervention or innovation that makes a product or service more affordable and accessible to a wider population.
  • Innovative business model: a way of targeting non consumers or low end consumers. This is most easily accomplished by new entrance since they are not locked into existing models.
  • Value network: a commercial infrastructure in which partners, distributers & customers are each better off when disruptive innovation proliferates.
  • adopting Lora model: health coaches as part of a care team
  • Controlling the cost while improving care
  • Medicare Advantage: it has become a successful market place that provides the context for disruption
  • for legislators: instead of shifting rising costs among different stakeholders, focus on enabling models of care that lower costs by maximizing population health.
  • For innovators: understand how urgent imperatives are changing the basis of competition- driving all stakeholders to develop new strategies, business model & innovation capabilities.
