describe Interspecific hybridization in used brassica triangle as an example
Ans:
Crossing between two different species of the same genus or different genus is called Interspecific hybridization is much more difficult and less frequent than intraspecific hybridization. This difficulties is due to increase taxonomic distance between the parents involved. The first authentic artifical interspecific hybridization for crop improvement is the production of hybrid Triticale by crossing between rye and wheat. Some naturraly occuring interspecific hybrid are hexaploid wheat, cotton, Brassica species etc.
Brassica triangle:
Several Brassica species namely B. junceacea, B. napus and B. carinata are developed by interspecific hybridization. B. junceacea is an tetraploid species developed from the interspecific cross B. nigra × B. camprestris. B. napus is developed from interspecific cross B. oleracea × B. camprestris and B. carinata from interspecific cross B. oleracea × B. nigra.
