Can someone please explain why minority women are likely to think very differently about gender inequality than white women

Expert Solution

Gender is just one of a multiplicity of inequalities that combine to form the patterns of poverty and exclusion that we see in the world today. Women from excluded groups often face a double whammy of injustice. Minority ethnic women are poorer, less healthy, less educated and significantly worse represented in the corridors of power than white women. Powerless, Poor leads to massive inequalities in health, education, employment and pay, levels of political involvement. Treatment by the criminal justice system is worst. It becomes clear that on average, women of color experience a much greater wage deficit than white women.

For women of color, the explained factors that contribute to the wage gap are often different that those of white women due to the fact that women of color frequently work in lower-paying jobs, work fewer hours, and experience more substantial caregiving burdens. Minority women are significantly less likely to graduate from high school or to get a bachelor’s degree than white women. This places minority women at a disadvantage from the moment they enter the workforce, creating major structural barriers to entering top-earning professional fields. Which makes it different mindset in them about the gender inequality.

Women in minority are particularly more likely than white women to experience the dual responsibilities of providing for a family. Even as they represent a larger share of their families’ income, women of color, particularly African American women and Latinas, are far more likely to be single mothers or single heads of household than their white counterparts. Women of color, who might be subject to both gender and racial discrimination, could experience a double burden.

More robust equal pay laws would help prevent racial and gender discrimination and ensure that women of color can take effective legal action to address discrimination. Minority women  tend to have less power and fewer privileges than men compared to white women. White women may enjoy a higher status and more power relative to select groups of men, depending on factors, such as what racial and ethnic groups they are associated with.

Minority women have barriers that prevent them from advancing beyond a certain point in the corporate world, despite their qualifications and successes. The existence of this discremination indicates that minority women do not enjoy the same opportunities as men.
