Outline the various processes of altered cellular growth in situ cancer and invasive cancer. (hypertrophy, hyperplasia, dysplasia)
Compare and contrast the similarities and differences in biological behaviors between malignant and benign tumors.
1) Hypertrophy :
i) Abnormal increase in size of the cells and confined to single location is called insitu cancer
ii) Abnormal increase in size of the cell in both normal tissue and invaded tissues
2) Hyperplasia
i) Abnormal increase in number of cells and these are confined to one tissue or organ is called insitu hyperplasia
ii) Abnormal increase in number of cells in both normal tissue and invaded tissues is called invasive hyperplasia
3) Dysplasia :
i) Abnormally developed cells or pre-cancerous cells seen only to confined tissue is called insitu dysplasia
ii) Abnormally developed cells or pre- cancerous cells seen in both normal tissue and invaded tissue is called invasive dysplasia
4)
----------> Similarities :
-- Both tumors contain abnormal growth of the cells
--Both tumors contain clonal neoplastic cells which constitutes parenchymal cells
----------> Differences
---Benign are slow growing while malignant are fast growing
--- Benign are capulated while malignant are encapsulated
--- Benign are non-invasive while malignant are invasive
--- Benign doesn't have metastasis while malignant have metastasis
---- prognosis good for benign and worst for malignant
