4) Imagine that you are working with Kevin Mills, 78 years old, who lives alone in an independent living unit. Mills has type 1 diabetes. You visited Mills today to check his blood sugar and ensure that he maintains his health in his best possible way in relation to the agreed NCP. Mills' daughter is at home now and she visits Mills two days a week to ensure his welfare. 4.1) Mills' blood sugar is 10.2mmol/L at 10:00 am. He had his breakfast at 08:30am (2 toast, raspberry jam and tea with two sugars). Mills stated that he did not document the previous blood sugar values and doesn't want to follow the diabetic diet plan as he feels the diabetic diet is 'boring'. Provide 2 (two) examples of strategies you would implement as a nurse in promoting the health maintenance of Mills. Diabetic patients require complex nursing care. TWO strategies to be implemented is a change in their diet and awareness of the process, risk factors and treatment. As they feel the diet plan is boring, the nurse should ensure that they take care of the aspects that include their interests. Therefore a nutritionist will make kind of improvement in the food schedule in which his health remains good. Any interesting and delicious food to be provided which is free of sugars and can be constantly supervised by the nurse. Word count : 88 4.2) Identify and describe a community service/resource Mills and his daughter could access in promoting his health maintenance in relation to the identified issue in addition to the home nursing services. 4.3) Briefly describe in 40-60 words, how you could apply advocacy skills in relation to this scenario. Minimum word required : 40

come on man it does not need any other details, that's all about the questions
Kevin Mills staying alone in his house showed that he suffered from loneliness due to that he is under stress. This stress and hypertension disturbed the body's metabolism that causes many types of diseases in the body. The whole scenario tells us he has HYPERGLYCEMIA.
4.1) Mills has type 1 diabetes due to the destruction of beta cells in the pancreas. It is characterized by the disturbance in the carbohydrate, lipids, and protein metabolism.
Mill's blood sugar is 10.2mmol/L at 10 am 1:30 hours after the beginning of a meal. Hyperglycemia occurs when the body insulin level is insufficient and ineffective.
Replace the boring diet with current dietary management, that emphasizes a healthy, balanced diet that is high in carbohydrate and fiber and low in case of fats.
The food plan should be well balanced according to the consideration of patient preferences, cultural customs, and lifestyles. If a particular meal is going to be late due to some reasons the patient should have to take a complex carbohydrate, proteins, and fibers to reach a snack to meet the demand.
Two strategies to be implemented:
a. Ensure adequate and appropriate diet with nutrition values. make a sound diet plan for him.
b. Provide patient and family teaching in the management of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia.
Delicious food free from sugars:
1. Leafy Green Vegetables.
2. Fatty fish.
3. Eggs and different items related to the egg.
4.Chia seeds
5. Nuts
6. Cinnamon.
The nurses can alternate or select these food items according to the patient requirement, The patient is vegetarian or non-vegetarian.
4.2) The community service and resource Mills and his daughter:
Designing effective lifestyle implementation remains one of the great challenges in diabetes care. The whole scenario of Kevin Mills's lifestyle showed that he suffered from the social framework or community context. these contextual factors have been related to poor diabetes outcomes.
Recent shreds of evidence suggest that the disparities are to match patient needs to existing community resources.
By providing the local communities where a support mechanism is in place to sustain healthy behavior in a practical way.
Technology offers many promising platforms for connecting patients to meaningful assets.
Social networking as any online or mobile interface has helped the patients by giving the opportunity to make connections and share information with others.
Web-based portals helps in social networking in diabetes self-management interventions.
e-healthy strides: a electronic program support especially designed to deliver Diabetes Self Management Education (DSME) from a patient's home computer.
The Mills daughter could access the:1. Maintained adequate nutrition.
2.Promoted skin integrity.
3.To check glucose levels and regulate it.
4.Learned about the insulin administrations and help in exercise needs for the Mills.
5.prevented infection.
4.3) I can understand the whole scenario as nurse and make a plan that included all factors to the poor health of Mills, I make a adequate and appropriate nutrition plan, this plan should be balanced and provide the maximum needs the Mills want from their diet. The foods must be healthy and free from sugar viz, chicken, eggs, oats meal, nuts, leafy vegetables, dalia etc. I prepare a special chart for her daughter and caregiver to prevent Mills skin breakdown, encourage daily bathing, teach to dry skin well after bathing, give careful attention to any area where skin link or touches with other skin area, emphasize good foot care.
Regulate glucose level twice or thrice a day, and help to regulate it. teach them the value of healthy food, and the last but not least, offer mentally support, encouragement, helping the Mills to express fears, and acknowledging that fingerstick does hurt and it is acceptable to dislike it.
Thanks and God Bless You.
