President Barack Obama in 2010 signed the Affordable Care Act into law. Expanding the health insurance coverage to all Americans and curbing the healthcare spending and costs was the aim of this policy. The reforms primarily affected the insurance industry and have been implemented beginning in the year of the law's passage, 2010 incrementally. These reforms; will lower costs and improve access to healthcare, while opponents claim that the legislation will increase costs and lower the quality of healthcare delivery.

The law has faced a number of legal challenges and a July 2015 poll by the Kaiser Family Foundation; it was shown that 78 percent of Americans believe the law will continue to be challenged in the future. Since healthcare industry, accounts for one-sixth of all spending in the nation there is very high complexity and size of the, healthcare industry. The political disputes surrounding the law, the effects of its reforms are uncertain and have to be watched closely over the next several years.
